Link Your Grub

by Anna

Earlier this week I reviewed Paula Deen’s, My First Cookbook and Gwen reviewed  DIY Delicious, a cookbook she claimed would teach you how to “build your food from the ground up“.

Yeah, Gwen? Well here’s a review for you: Crescent rolls are best, wadded up, straight out of the can. Build that.

Then yesterday, I used my kitchen as a classroom and learned that having my kids cook for me, wasn’t the high-life I had expected, but worth every dirty dish, drip, and splatter.

Just who does he think he’s lecturing, anyway?

And now, without further ado, I welcome you to THE…

Linky Party with NO RULES!  The only thing we ask is that you link up something GRUB related. It can be an old post and you DON’T have to link back to us. We’re like a couple of saints up in this place, yo.

AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH… We even promise to visit and leave a comment on each and every blog that links up. EVEN if there’s like THREE or FOUR of you! C’mon now! We’re AMAZING!

It’s a Bring Your Own Grub linky party, we’ll see you there!

Not sure how to link up? It’s easy peasy, give it a try, you can’t mess anything up! If you can’t figure it out, give me a shout at anna@witbehind.com… then I in turn will give Gwen a shout at gwen@witbehind.com because, like, I don’t know what I’m doing, anymore than you do.

Fine! You can write to her directly. It’s your email, sucker.

OR…Got Facebook figured out? You can upload a pic of your GRUB to our Facebook page. We’ll make over it just as much there, as we would here, and that way you can play, even if you don’t have a blog. Just be sure and tell us what were looking at, so we don’t make a rookie mistake and refer to your crepes as, “Righteous pancakes, dude.”

Well, with instructions like “link up something grub related”, I feel morally obligated to link you to my recipe blog. Actually, it’s more like an online recipe file – no pictures, no chit chat … just recipes. It’s called …. FOR THE LOVE OF GRUB. Clearly, I have to link it. :)

And now, thanks to your friendly e-mail pointing my lack of a link, I’m actually going to post it.

Wow. I’m on a roll. I couldn’t figure out why these other commenters were talking about links they hadn’t posted … and why you were responding like you knew what they were talking about. Then I realized I missed the “add a link” button and just posted my link in the comments. Third time’s the charm and now I have linked up correctly. Like I said, it’s hard being brilliant. :)

Bethany! It is not your fault… I’m horrible at giving directions. I started to link for you, but thought maybe you had something against linkies and wanted to keep it in the comment section. We’ll get this thing figured out yet… and get fat doing it.

I think Bethany is going to fit in quite well here!

Anna February 26, 2011 at 7:15 am

Right Dawn? It’s like she was meant to be here, the glow of our imperfection drew her to us.

Bethany February 27, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Yeah, yeah … whatevah. I planned the whole thing. Just wanted to give you an opportunity to feel smart. :)

Well Pat, I read a claim recently, that you could bake a German Chocolate Cake… I’m going to need to taste some proof.

While my link is about a meal that is not my own recipe, I feel as though that meal is still with me, partially because it may take several years to digest, but more so because it was a delicious meal.

Cheers.

As a farmer’s wife, I’m just glad to see that someone is finally putting a face back on our food.

There’s a real disconnect you know? I mean… It’s like people don’t even know where their food comes from anymore.

Thank you, C. Camel for being a part of the solution, and not the problem. This cheers is for you.

GREAT! I actually posted a real recipe, and a great one… but because I linked to an old post which also talked about sweater weather being upon us… the only pic I have, is of a weird girl in a sweater. Somebody thump me!

But I promise the recipe is delish and one you want in your arsenal. Click ‘weird girl in sweater’ on the linky above, to get there.

But what if their crepes are righteous?
I keep thinking one of these days I’ll actually do a food blog thing where I make one of my fabulous dishes and then post a step by step guide, but than I remember that it’s work enough to make food without having to make it look good in poor lighting. C’est la vie

Don’t make me use your full name here, Mr.

I know the little Estonian cook that resides deep down within, is just dying to post a link.

Word on the poor lighting thing… It turned out to be a good thing that we got started cooking at 3:30 in the afternoon.

TS Hendrik February 25, 2011 at 6:39 pm

I thought about the Estonian posts, but they don’t have any pictures or any real effort involved.

Thanks for the tip on the lighting. One day I will get around to doing a post for either my cumin chicken salad, or my teryaki turkey burgers. One day in a magical land I like to call Neverland.

Ha! That empty (except for the pet hair, attatched and loose) was after I spent an entire day folding and putting away 5 (!) baskets of clean laundry that were piled precariously in my bedroom for weeks. We don’t even bother with the socks any more. Every morning we all have to make a trip to “the sock basket”.

Dawn February 25, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Poor lighting! That must be why my stew looked so bad!

I need to spend an entire WEEK taking care of things around here. I have company coming soon, and that usually motivates me, but our house has been through so much lately, that the sum of it’s disarray is OVERWHELMING. I thought Cow would be here this weekend to stand over me and make me do something, but he just left to finish breaking down an engine. WAAAAHHHHH!

PS) A sock basket is brilliant and will make your socks last longer if they’re not being folded into balls. I used to have to have every sock perfectly mated, but now if one doesn’t have a mate, it’s thrown into the drawer with the other mateless socks. When the drawer starts to get full, I go through and mate the ones that have them now. Next week is all about organization here at Wit. This hypocrite is going to have to GET WITH IT!

I feel bad that my link isn’t really edible. I mean, you can try, if you’re determined, I suppose. But it will probably leave a really bad aftertaste.

I could post a recipe for children. It’s rather tasty, and the children don’t necessarily need to be Hansel and Gretel. As long as you can get them in the pot, and get the lid down tight, that’s some fine dining!

Ooooh, so that’s what was wrong with your recipe… it wasn’t edible. I see, I see. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but it was much rougher coming up, than it was going down. This explains it.

Reputation! My children have been particularly pleasant today. Your recipe suggestion doesn’t sound appetizing at all!
Check back with me on a Monday… I might be hungry then.

Well, I am just happy that you don’t kick me out for being such an amateur… I really, TRULY did make some righteous crepes for breakfast this morning!! no lie! they even had homemade strawberry sauce but alas, I didn’t take a picture!! And, tonight, I made a rockin’ banana cream pie (with homemade whipped cream) oh yeah, baby! but, no picture, although I did THINK “maybe I should take a picture of this- it really looks good!” oh well, I’ll just sit here with my full belly. :)
If it makes you feel any better… we ate hot dogs and baked beans for dinner tonight. I must add, the hot dogs were all natural & my family LOVED it. It seems that I normally try too hard & they are happy with simple meals. I need to remember that. Not knowing what to cook literally gives me a headache at least 3x a week.

Man, Becky. You just gave me another reason why I have no business writing a blog. I’ve never made crepes or whipped my own cream. We should trade hobbies for a week. It would be the best week of my crew’s life, and when your guys got their mom back from the computer you’d feel crazy appreciated.

Becky February 26, 2011 at 2:46 pm

ha ha! I guess it is just a matter of what you’re used to! Compared to my sister, I hardly do anything in the kitchen! She is amazing– the planning, growing, cooking, freezing, baking. I stopped by last week & saw her pulling a loaf of bread outta the oven- to cool with 4 other loaves, a coffee cake & 2 batches of muffins, all ready for the week.
btw- crepes are easy & delicious! You gotta try some. My kids even love them w/ just powdered sugar.

Gwen February 25, 2011 at 9:29 pm

I can handle making crepes but draw the line at whipped cream, you beat me!

Reply

Becky February 26, 2011 at 2:57 pm

Oh, but you should do it! I will never go back to Cool Whip. It is so worth it. And, the big plus is knowing the ingredients – only cream, vanilla & powdered sugar. Whip your cream, Gwen, whip it gooood.

So I’m here, showing up late to the party (again). Making an entrance, they call it in some places. That or behind the times… I feel obligated to join this Linky Party. Obligation or ego, tough call. But that’s neither here nor there. I want to share my… sigh. This doesn’t sound quite right, but I would like to share my eggs with you. As in egg recipe. Not those ones.

Trying again. I would like to participate because I like parties and have a recipe! Even though I stole it and it’s not mine (sorta)! But it uses nearly stale breadrolls and eggs to make awesomess. Awwyea. Without further ado, here it is: http://musicofshadows.wordpress.com/2011/01/07/an-egg-xcellent-victory/

Was I suppose to just paste it right there? Maybe I should have emailed Anna, but that felt stalkerish. More so than writing novel length comments. (PS, if I did this wrong, email me and yell at me ie use caps) And because I too am saintly, I will consider linking back if I can figure out a clever and witty way to do it, which has about a 50/50 chance of happening.
